About Us
NightlifeK emerged from Kakamega county, in the East of African Motherlands of Kenya 'Kii Nyaa' back in 2014 as Khaligraph Dance Crew which evolved to Khaligraph Music Group. The name khaligraph was Ephrahim's nickname / alias in High school , the founder of Khaligraph Dance Crew. In school, Ephrahim wrote everything in code, drew graphitti and calligraphy on all his books, desk and whatever he put his hands on. Everyone called him kali a short slang for calligraphy. He's cryptic nature made him so popular and that popularized his dance group which had four members, Brian, George, Kelly and himself . The group later split and transformed into Khaligraph Music Group with Kelly and Ephrahim as the remaining members. Collins, Ken and Elphas later joined but the union was short lived when Ephrahim was expelled from school . Khaligraph Music Group faded with the absence of Ephrahim, the group remained dead until Ephrahim revived it as Hhaligraph Deejay. The change came about when the name khaligraph was already taken by another artist and Ephrahim changed it to Hhaligraph trying to be unique. In 2016, Ephrahim moved to the USA where he dedicated his life to music , his dream of introducing his own genre become alive in 2018 when he opened Hhaligraph Deejay Records , he was throwing shows and djing under that name but felt he needed something big to accommodate recordings and distributions. NightlifeK was created as a recording and production house of Hhaligraph Deejay. Jamaican dancehall artist Vybz Kartel 'WorldBoss' was the biggest inspiration for the kartel name pick. Ephrahim was inspired by him since he was Form 3 in Highs chool. A typical boarding school in KE had two music gang affiliation from Jamaica , 'GAZA/GULLY'. Unlike other gangs in the world, our gangs in school competed musically, the best gang had the best swag, dancers, artists , ideas, poetry and a cult following. Gaza gang affiliates was more triumphant in Kenyan High school entertainment scene, Vybz Kartel had hits after hits hence considered the undisputed dancehall king. Khaligraph Dance crew only performed on Gaza affiliate songs and we emulated and perfected the dances we saw on music videos. Dancehall music shaped our High school extracurricular activities. Before a dance style was famous in Kenya , or any new fashion, it had to be trending in the dancehall world before it hits the outside world. This is how NightlifeKartelsRecords actually started, Later nightlifeK grew to be independent as a record label , and Hhaligraph Deejay transformed into Hhaligraph Cloth Line. Fast forward , nightlifeK is now the home to noiztone genre, a child of Reggae, NoizStudios our production house and Crownicles 'HitListMultiVerse' which is soley for djing.
